Most migration issues come from unknowns: unsupported apps, messy configuration and unmapped users. Planning turns those unknowns into tasks.
Assess
- Inventory projects, spaces, custom fields, workflows and schemes
- List every Marketplace app and check Cloud availability and data migration paths
- Identify integrations, scripts and custom code
- Confirm user directories, SSO and group strategy
Clean up before you move
- Archive inactive projects
- Consolidate duplicate fields and schemes
- Remove apps nobody uses
Rehearse
- Run at least one test migration
- Validate data with project owners using a checklist
- Time each step to plan the cutover window
Cutover & hypercare
- Freeze changes and communicate the timeline
- Migrate, validate and switch users over
- Provide a support channel for the first weeks
